Sitting here in Australia, where the average wage is $58,000AUD and the average house price is $475,000, and the price of housing in the two major cities has gone up between 12% and 20% in the last twelve months (‘it’s different here’, so the spruikers say), I am quaking in my boots! Is the USA today thesign of the future for Australia? Some analysts say our housing affordability is only slightly too high. How can that be?? Is it because it now takes two salaries to pay a mortgage rather than the historical one? Let’s face it, both partners now work full time in the majority of cases rather than Dad being the primary breadwinner.
